It's back! Project Softail (PS) is finally on it's way to the streets of Southern California, giving up it's current parking place in the showroom of V-Twin City in Pomona California. PS now, but between an accident thaat left a certain editor pretty immobile for almost three months, deadlines, two special issues that neede to be produced and a general problem caused by days only having 24 hours, it's just not ready. but we did make some progress in the last few weeks.
If you are new to HOT BIKE, Project Softail has a Daytec 103/200 Street Scene frame, T.P. Engineering-built 80ci Evo, a transmission made from Delkron cases and JIMS gears and Nempco's Primary in a Box. It also has 43mm Ceriani forks, Progressive Suspension rear shocks, 16-inch Sturgis wheels, Avon tires, three six-piston Harrison calipers, a Milwaukee Iron nine-inch wide rear fender,D&D Metalworks aluminum gas tank, Bourgets Bike Works handlebars, Ness rocker boxs, Beyond Bolt-On license plate/caliper mount, U.M.I. forward controls and a Vance & Hines exhaust. The neat thing about PS, though, is most of it is catalog stuff. The only full custom things are the motor and rear fender, the rest can be ordered right out of catalogs you probably heva in your house right now.
We made some progress this month, and if the stars are all in alignment, the cosmos agrees and President Clinton signs a bill to add four hours to each day, we should be riding it in the next month or two! HB
After sliding the stator in place, Buzz likes to lube the plug before he tries to slide it through the case.
If the screws that come with your stator are not pre-LockTite treated like the CCI kit is, make sure to apply a small amount to each.
Since electrical power is a necessity, we started by getting a stator from Custom Chrome Incorporated.
Since the motor is already pretty polished, we installed CCI's chrome-plated regulator.
