Myrtle Beach is a quiet little tourist community on the beach in South Carolina. It looks much like a typical beach area except for the number of golf courses all over the place, some 17 million golf club carrying tourists come to test Myrtles famous fairways 51 weeks a year. The other week 80,000 Harleys take over the city and change the most popular sport from chasing a little white ball with a big steel club to cruising. And cruise they do, all day and all nightlong. Carolinians apparently don't need sleep during this wild four-day weekend. No matter when I left (or came back) to the hotel, the distinctive sound of a Harley rolling down the boulevard broke the silence that the quiet beach community normally offers.
