In 1957 Harley-Davidson introduces the XL Series "Sportster" motorcycle that looks very similar to the K Series models except that 54 cubic inch (883cc) side-valve V-twin engine with aluminum cylinder heads and replaced by 54 cubic inches (883cc) cost overhead valve (OHV) engine featuring iron and cylinder heads. Otherwise, 1957 XL Sportster has the same basic frame, engine cases, shifted to the right leg, right side chain drive, telescopic front forks, rear suspension and brake drum as the Model 1956 K.
